In 2012 Will The Solar System Be ‘directly Aligned’ With The Center Of Our Milky Way?

I saw on a documentary that in 2012 our solar system will have a unique alignment with the sun and also will complete it’s ‘wobble’. Can anyone confirm this and also the consequences?

The Earth, Sun and centre of the Milky Way can never line up, because the centre of the Milky Way lies 6.5 degrees below the Earth’s orbit. The line joining the Earth and Sun does cross the plane of the Milky Way, but that happens twice every year, and has for many thousands of years. Even so, the plane of the Milky Way is arbitrarily defined based on the distribution of stars in the sky: it is a statistical average, not a real object in space.
Gravitational attraction depends on distance. The Sun is 8 light minutes away from Earth, but has a very minor gravitational effect on the Earth compared to that of the Moon, which is much smaller but very close. The black hole at the centre of the Milky Way is 18,000 light years away, and has a completely unmeasurable gravitational effect on Earth.
Why not try your own experiment? Take a sheet of paper and place a dot in the middle. This represents the center of the Galaxy. Now draw a circle with the dot at it’s center. The circle represents the passage of the solar system in it’s journey around the Galaxy. No matter where you place the solar system on that circle, it will align with the dot! This is because ANY two points in the Universe will be aligned! That doesn’t sound much like a documentary, but more like an episode of The Outer Limits. There are no consequences to be discussed from a situation that has obtained since the Solar System first formed.
And what difference would it make if it was “directly aligned”? The gravitational effects of such an alignment would be negligible. It’s not as if this hasn’t happened before in the ~ 4.5 billion year history of the solar system.
There are so many bizarre apocalyptic rumors running around about 2012. What is it with that specific year that makes people act like such lunatics? Sheesh.
The ‘wobble’ you refer to is precession of the earth’s axis. This is a perfectly smooth motion which is completely unnoticeable to the average person and has been happening (and will continue) for billions of years. It won’t be ‘completed’, it just keeps on going.
As for alignments, this is the realm of astrology. Astrologers like to draw lines all over the place and say that Object ‘A’ is aligned with Object ‘B’. I might just as easily say that a pigeon, flying 30 feet above me, is ‘aligned’ with an aircraft 30,000 above me. The physical consequences in both cases are the same – absolutely nothing.

For the alignment thing, the galaxy is so big the it takes thousands of years for us to move significantly. Aligning with the center of the galaxy is not something that happens in one day or one year. We’re not going to be any more aligned in 2012 than we are today.
And for the wobble thing, people who say this don’t understand what the ‘wobble’ is. It’s not something that, like, all of a sudden the earth will bump or bounce or something. The earth is constantly ‘wobbling,’ it’s a continuous thing that has no beginning or end. We’re doing it right now.
every 13000 years of half of the great cycle of the constellations…a great cataclyms happens on this world. It happened before back in 9792 BD with Atlantis.
It is due to the crossing of the galactic equator. Something is there…waiting for us to return every 13000 years. Sagittarius is important here. A beam of energy perhaps undetectable…or another body in space of significant magnitude to affect the solar system in general.
People say this is insignicant…and yet many scientists have found that there are catalclysms recorded in ice core samples going back 10000 years or more ago. Not millions or billions of years…but rather much sooner.
complete it’s wobble? Makes sense…and earth will also have some sort of wobble/tilt as well. Which result in a planetary ‘reset’…all the surface and some of the subsurface will be cleansed…no cities…no human effects…just nature all mixed up and starting over. Clean sweep.
No its not true, it will happen in 100-? years (scientist can confirm it because comets can alter cources of planets and there are 11 planets that have to line up (mercury, venus, mars, earth, jupiter, saturn, pluto, usr2001 (the unknown one, i forgot its name), the sun, uranus,neptune. The bad things are, burning of mercury, the earth will be frozen into thick ice, end of mand kind, everything will be frozen to -100000* because there is no solar or sun light rays , our magnetic feild will be distracted from the planets lined up, and one scary thought the two of the planets will collide before we get to the line eclipce of planets. The moon used to be a planet and it hit the earth at the early stages of its making, it used to be just lava, the moon struck earth and got stuck in orbit. The water came from meterites which had gasses and water in them. They are found on the orien belt, and a belt thats around our solar system thing. There are many predictions by many like the Mayan culture and others that the Earth will come to an end on 21/12/2012….. (this is not true) this is my mums birthday to.
look at the planets time span, we are 1000 million miles or 1500 million km’s away from any planet, it takes 3 months to move 1m extra closer to each other, it takes a long time, its like evolution if its going to happen in 4 years what are we doing with our lives then, its just holligens- Meteores can hit us in 2010-3100 because it naturally happens.
Beleive what you beleive but just work out the maths, we are no where near it, email me and ill tell you 100 reasons why its not happening in 4 years. Not joking
Such things do not happen in a day or a year. These are cosmic events that take thousands of years if they are very fast. Earth that is tiny speck in comparison (with all the six billion homo-sepians) do not possess the energy nor leverage it to make even a dent on a cosmoc event. All the knowledge we possess do not point to any such event occuring.
Yes….true….and then the whole Solar system will get lost in the Great big blackhole which is there at the centre of the Milky way….
