People go on and on about how McCain is more patriotic and able to lead based on the fact that he was a POW. I think it’s disgusting to play the POW card in a time when our country is engaged in two wars. It’s a political mind f^ck and nobody is being offered any lube.
So since being a POW makes you automatically qualified to the Commander in Chief, should we nominate Jessica Lynch to run against Hillary Clinton in 2012?

well, we COULD Nominate Jessica Lynch…..but then we’d have to vett that whole steaming pile of crap we were all spoon fed (by GWB!!) about how she fought off 100 Iraqi’s using only a bent spoon, during fierce hand to hand combat……..before being overwhelmed and taken prisoner.
I read her book……and appalling isn’t the word for how she was USED by the republican party and their propaganda machine. Nice way to treat a true war hero, and veteran who proudly served.

No one said the only sole qualification that qualifies McCain is because he was a POW – it’s just part of the total package like Obama’s being a “community organizer” – He also wrote 2 books about himself at the ripe old age of 40. That is your liberal lunatic friends that try to extort and belittle the GOP candidate. If you listened to the campaign instead of using a thimble to condense the actual message you would know about the important bills McCain has sponsored with both democrats and republicans and see an actual record of accomplishment. By pretending he has Obama’s lack of experience and is solely running on being a POW is either ignorant or just lying in order defend your candidates lack of substance.
This is not the single qualification to being president. It is evidence of McCain’s character to serve our country, despite the torture.
He was too crippled to continue as a military service man after the war, from the torture and all, so he went into politics. His initial goal was not to become president. Certainly there are other qualities that John McCain has to become president and his POW status is NOT a handicap.
i have nothing against her..and believe her to be a hero…..but if you want to compare the two…look at everything he did since…he retired from the military she did not…he was also held captive 5 years..again she was not…it doesnt make what happened to her any less a horrible thing or her any less of a hero…but in reality…..you should be ashamed..have you served your country? if you dont if your spouse doesnt perhaps you shouldnt disrespect them..cause if you were in the military or your spouse..you wouldnt be talking trash

Did you not hear Fred the other not; being a POW doesn’t qualify one to be President… the point in all this is to show what McCain’s character is and what this man did to allow YOUR freedom here to continue.

I think it’s disgusting you have no respect for the “POW card”. YOU try being in a POW camp for 5 1/2 years and still suffering from it today. He has melanoma, he can’t lift his arms from his shoulders being smashed by rifle, PTSD, I mean I could do this all day. So stop being ignorant, change the channel from CNN, and have some respect for the people who allow you to be where you are today.
Maybe you should think about what he went through. If you were in a camp for as long as he was, it would be a major factor in how you lived your life too. It’s not just his 5 years as a POW that makes him a great candidate. It’s his 22 years in uniform, his 26 years in Congress and generation after generation of his family serve our country, even when they no longer have to. The real question should be, “why does McCain offend you so much?”
No….You have never worn the uniform, have you? There is a lot to be said for putting your hind parts on the line for your country… If have to explain, you will never understand! Thank a Veteran! In what other country would a loser like you have the freedom to criticize a man who is better than you?

Okay, so I have read all of the answers given but none of them give any good information why they stand for what they are saying. I agree with your statement in general (just not the way it is put). I think it is AMAZING that John McCain went through all he did and then CONTINUED to serve his country by going into politics. Both of my brothers are serving right now and I am incredibly proud of them and truly respect everyone who fights for our country from the people sitting behind desks making sure everything works the way it needs to, to the POWs.
All right, now that I have said all that, let me say that the reason I don’t like all this attention being paid to the POW thing is that the card is being played TOO much. Yes, bring it up in your speeches every now and then. But to bring it up so much, and to put so much weight on it is just riddiculous. Yes, he is a hero; yes, he is very brave. NO that does not make him a better candidate for president. NO that does not mean he will make everything better for America/Americans. So lets start paying attention to things like policies and exactly HOW he plans on making things better, because his experience as a POW certainly is not.
