In the Bible it says NO ONE will know the timing of the end of the world. What makes people think it’s in 2012?

Yes it’s very easy to boast that no one knows anything. The bible has a tradition of doing that.
The Mayan calender cycle ends on the winter solstice on 21st dec, 2012. If people think it is the end of Earth they are nuts. When a clock reaches midnight it does not stop and neither does the world. A second later a new day begins and the cycle starts again.
It is the end times because a time is 1/12 th of the rotation of our solar system around the galaxy. We have come full circle back to the beginning again. Each time is a star constellation, the zodiac. An age is the culmination of all of them. We are about to enter a new time and age.

Well, there are many potentialities for the world ending in 2012, but the main reason why people think it will happen is probably a mixture of 2 things:
1. The Mayan calendar (still one of the most reliable and exact calendars in existence) ends on December 21, 2012. Well, it doesn’t exactly end, but it changes. This world dies in some natural disaster, and a new one begins.
2. The more people believe in it, the more people will talk about it, and the more people talk about it, the more people will believe in it, and this feedback loop will just keep going on and on until the day comes and it either happens, or it doesn’t.
Changing the subject from why to what, there are many things which could happen, but some are more likely than others. There is always the chance of any number of forms of terrorist attacks. Did you know that if you took out three power plants on each of the four corners of the Canada-USA power grid, (so 12 stations) it would wipe out all of the power in Canada and the USA? Totally destroys the power grid. Also, every few thousand years, Earths polarity switches, and it’s been a few thousand years. Ignoring the potential for natural disasters and such, all of our most important information is stored magnetically on hard drives etc. or on disks that will become useless once our computers don’t work because the hard drive is wiped, and so is the BIOS. Everything from our cars and power to our Defense network and Particle Accelerators uses computers, so what happens when they all die at once?
Finally, as my best friend pointed out, since it’s basically predetermined that something is going to happen in 2012, if anyone tries any world domination/destruction schemes, that is when they are going to do it.
Many believe it for a variety of reasons, one is the bible code, others are Nostradamus, the Mayans, and others also. It is not just one source saying it, even scientist say that in 2012 the Solar system will be aligned for the first time in some 50+k years and the Earths wobble will change the other way as a ball does when spinning it slowly over thousands of thousands of years wobbles back and forth.
So with all this being said many are taking it seriously that something whether its the end of the world or not is going to happen.
Just cause of the Mayan calender ending in 21st december 2012 and there’s apparently there will be a strange lining up with the milky way or something like that but that does not mean the end of the world!! There could be a slight change in earth but that happens like every thousand years anyway or nothing will happen at all!
Maybe through bible knowledge and receiving revelations? Many pastors are saying we are living in the end times. But i dont think anyone is sure.
I don’t know about which Christians are scaring ppl into believing in Christ. But i believe that we ask because we have too good a deal not to share it.

it’s always been the cristians goal to scare people into saving their souls by saying the end is near. now they have gone so far as to use the mayan calender to predict the new end! how pathetic
it’s written in Quraan, Humans will never know when will the world end.
